In Milwaukee, the IRS deadline for your car donation is the pickup date, not the day you call. To claim a deduction for this tax year, your vehicle must be physically picked up on or before December 31. That’s why Cream City Keys urges Milwaukee donors to schedule their free pickup 3–5 business days before year-end. Heritage for the Blind handles everything: fast scheduling, free towing, and your written acknowledgment for tax purposes once the vehicle sells.
Cream City Keys is proud to serve the entire Milwaukee Metro, from the East Side, Bay View, and Riverwest to Wauwatosa, West Allis, Glendale, and Oak Creek. Whether your car is parked in Walker’s Point, near the Medical College in Wauwatosa, or out in Menomonee Falls or Cudahy, you can donate it without leaving home. Non-running vehicles are welcome, there’s no inspection or repairs required, and pickup is available Monday through Saturday throughout the holiday season. Donate now, beat the December 31 deadline, and support life-changing services for people who are blind or visually impaired through Heritage for the Blind (EIN 58-2164446).

Choose a pickup day before December 31
5 minutesOur team, working with Heritage for the Blind, will look at Milwaukee tow routes and offer you the earliest available time. To be safe, schedule 3–5 business days before Dec 31 so we can guarantee a pickup slot within the tax year.
Confirm keys, title, and access for the tow truck
5–10 minutesGather your title if available and make sure the vehicle is accessible in your driveway, garage entrance, or street parking in Milwaukee or nearby suburbs. Non-running and untitled situations may still be workable—just explain when you schedule.
Vehicle is picked up — your deduction year is locked in
15–30 minutes on pickup dayOn pickup day, the tow driver meets you at your Milwaukee-area location, completes a quick handoff, and removes the vehicle at no cost. The exact pickup date (on or before Dec 31) is the year the IRS will treat your car as donated.
Receive your tax acknowledgment and Form 1098-C (if needed)
Within weeks after saleAfter your vehicle is sold, Heritage for the Blind mails your written acknowledgment, and for vehicles sold over $500, IRS Form 1098-C. Even if this arrives the following year, your deduction belongs to the year the car was picked up.
Year-end tax deduction facts
Pickup date = donation year
For IRS purposes, your vehicle donation is made on the day the charity takes possession. If your car is picked up on or before December 31 in Milwaukee, the deduction applies to that tax year—no matter when the car later sells.
Form 1098-C for vehicles over $500
If Heritage for the Blind sells your donated vehicle for more than $500, they issue IRS Form 1098-C. This form shows the gross sale price, which usually sets your maximum deductible amount when you itemize on your tax return.
You must itemize on Schedule A
To claim a tax deduction for your Cream City Keys car donation, you generally need to itemize deductions on Schedule A of your federal return. If you take the standard deduction, you usually cannot also claim this charitable deduction.
Written acknowledgment for your records
You’ll receive a written acknowledgment from Heritage for the Blind after your vehicle sells. Keep this with your tax files. For donations over $500, the IRS expects you to have this documentation to substantiate your claimed deduction.
Receipt can arrive next year, deduction stays this year
Even if your 1098-C or acknowledgment arrives in the following calendar year, your deduction year is based on when the car was picked up. A Dec 31 pickup in Milwaukee still counts for that tax year’s return.
